Downscaling approaches of climate change projections for watershed modeling: Review of theoretical and practical considerations

چکیده
Water resources managers must increasingly consider climate change implications of, whether the concern is floods, droughts, reservoir management, or reliably supplying consumers. Hydrologic and water quality modeling of future scenarios requires understanding global models (GCMs), emission downscaling GCM output, since GCMs generate predictions at a resolution too coarse for watershed modeling. Here we present theoretical considerations needed to understand various methods. Since most modelers will not be performing independent downscaling, given resource time requirements needed, also practical workflow selecting downscaled datasets. Even availability number datasets, decisions are regarding approach (statistical vs. dynamic), consider, options, statistics selection model(s) that best predict historical period, relative importance different statistics. Available dynamically-downscaled datasets more limited in periods considered, but modeler should matches observations. We critically assess existing approaches then provide (which have been downscaled? What some limitations these databases? steps approach?) Many questions addressed previous reviews. While there no “best approach” work every watershed, having systematic multiple options can serve make an informed supportable decision.

متن کاملClimate Change: a Theoretical Review
Climate Change has been undoubtedly the most illustrious environmental issue since late 20 century. But neither the discourse merely emerged during that time, nor it was problematized in the same way since its onset. History of Climate Change discourse reveals that from a purely scientific concern it has turned into a public agenda that is nowadays more inclined to be development problem. Trans...
متن کاملGeneralization of a statistical downscaling model to provide local climate change projections for Australia
Climate change information required for impact studies is of a much finer spatial scale than climate models can directly provide. Statistical downscaling models (SDMs) are commonly used to fill this scale gap. SDMs are based on the view that the regional climate is conditioned by two factors: (1) the largescale climatic state and (2) local physiographic features. An SDM based on an analogue app...
